Self-Drive Tour “Avifauna Namibia” – October 2025
“Avifauna Namibia – Self-Drive”
Dear Albert,
Everyday life — including our work at the clinic — has long since caught up with us again.
As announced, here now comes our evaluation of the Namibia holiday so beautifully planned and organized by you, from 7–24 October 2025.
We’ll stay in touch and see you at the CMT in Stuttgart. If you conduct another tour in the meantime, which I assume you will, we’d love to see shared photos and hear your experiences.
Warm greetings to Namibia,
Helga and Horst

Evaluation of our Namibia trip, 7–24 October 2025
Direct flight with Discovery Airlines:
Punctual, but for a night long-haul flight, the economy class was definitely too cramped and uncomfortable! Please already recommend Premium Economy or Business Class for future travel planning. Unfortunately, an upgrade for the return flight was not possible.
Entry into Namibia:
Very tedious and cumbersome passport and visa formalities, with no noticeable advantage from the pre-arranged e-visa application. Getting an MTC SIM card was a bit tricky, and exchanging money was complicated with all the required paperwork.
Rental vehicle:
Our Land Cruiser from NamibRoos was excellent! Airport transfer, service at the depot in Windhoek, briefing, vehicle handover and return — all very friendly and professional.
Route description and navigation:
As you had warned us, the GPS occasionally “acted up.” For the return route from the north, please indicate the exit “Windhoek North” instead of “Independence Road”, as that sign does not exist.

Accommodations
1) Auas Lodge:
Comfortable, nice pool, interesting waterhole, very friendly and entertaining staff with evening singing, good dinner and breakfast buffet.
Perfectly equipped fuel and rest station in Rehoboth with fascinating information panels about the history of the Basters.
Büllsport Guest Farm:
Conveniently located at the entrance to the Naukluft Mountains, pleasant accommodation. The reportedly reserved hostess and her assistant “warmed up” considerably over time. Good meals, personal atmosphere, ornithologically rewarding surroundings. Extremely competent, skilled, and authentic guide David.
Kulala Desert Lodge:
Dreamlike location, cool design, staff focused on professional perfection — accordingly a more “exclusive” clientele. During both excursions, little ornithological focus. Accommodation good, food not overwhelming. As expected, Sossusvlei was rather touristy and superficial. Here we truly missed nature and bird expertise (especially the Dune Lark!).
Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge:
Remote mountain location, authentic architecture perfectly blending into the landscape, lovely pool, comfortable rooms, good food and breakfast buffet. (Helga would have liked to stay another day!) A very well-rounded experience overall.
The owner told me he has already sold the lodge, and his successor plans to invest further in buildings and facilities.
Journey to Swakopmund:
Probably the most scenic part of our journey — the mountain passes (which I love), the impressive Kuiseb Canyon, and then desert and savanna landscapes up to the Welwitschia.
Intense off-road experience on the Moon Landscape Drive, exactly to my taste (please forewarn future travellers!).
Brigadoon Guesthouse:
An extremely pleasant, truly “cool” location after the heat of the previous week — stylish, comfortable, relaxed, and perfectly situated. Attentive and accommodating manager.
According to the brochure, the owner runs several other lodges — are they as good as this one?
Excursion to Walvis Bay Lagoon:
Two nice, slightly rugged guides with excellent sand-driving skills and tasty snacks. I was able to contribute some ornithological input on the European species already present (e.g., Black Terns). Unfortunately, no Lesser Flamingos, but otherwise a rewarding outing.
Drive via Spitzkoppe to Ameib Guesthouse:
The schedule is hard to keep; the ranger said it was “too late” for the Herero Chat. However, we still observed and photographed other interesting bird species.
Ameib Guesthouse:
Accommodation rather simple and too warm at night, but excellent dinner and breakfast, including sensational homemade bread by the hostess herself. Engaging conversations.
Ornithologically highly interesting surroundings with a small dam. Spectacular landscape at Bull’s Party (the next day!), with further bird highlights including a Verreaux’s Eagle.
Omandumba Bush Camp:
Pleasantly short drive (by Namibian standards) through wonderful scenery.
At first glance simple, but absolutely convincing camp with functional accommodation, good meals, friendly guests, and the best evening game drive of our trip. Our clever guide, who spoke surprisingly good German, showed us detailed Stone Age rock paintings and rounded off the evening with the best sundowner of the entire holiday.
The next morning, he pointed out a distant Verreaux’s Eagle nest, and was delighted when he could view it clearly for the first time through my spotting scope.
Taleni Etosha Village:
A longer but manageable drive, conveniently located, spacious lodge complex. As expected, quite a different clientele — mostly larger bus groups, but overall acceptable.
The early morning game drive near Andersson Gate was rather “non-ornithological,” focusing on the “usual suspects,” with several networked guides racing competitively to sightings — slightly absurd at times. Still, I managed to make some good bird observations “on the side.”
Drive through Etosha with our own car:
As expected, one of the highlights of our trip — mostly staying close to the Pan, with adventurous routes and deep, sometimes water-filled potholes. Wonderful wildlife and bird observations.
Emanya Lodge:
Upscale lodge in a positive sense — ambitious architecture, impressive pool, high-level service, good meals, comfortable accommodation, park-like garden with surprising birdlife and a richly frequented waterhole. Interesting guests. We treated ourselves to a rest day here.
Drive to the Waterberg:
We only stopped at Lake Otjikoto — the entry fee was too high, and the guided tour underwhelming. But I spotted and photographed a Mangrove Heron and several European Bee-eaters.
The city of Otjiwarongo left an excellent impression as we passed through.
Waterberg Resort:
Beautiful location, completely different from previous stops. Mostly large groups, but interesting conversations with local rangers, a ranger trainer from Germany, and Namibian women from the restaurant team who showed surprising knowledge and curiosity about political and historical topics.
The restaurant, housed in the old police station from 1910, is a living museum with many photos from that era. I don’t know any public building in Germany where portraits of the last German imperial couple still hang!
We completed the Mountain View Trail to the summit, with wonderful views and a pair of Hawk-Eagles. In retrospect, we should have booked a game drive onto the plateau.
Return to Windhoek:
Smooth and quick, passing many lodges that likely cater mainly to big game enthusiasts.
Question: Has there ever been anything on the highway that could be called “traffic”? Please indicate the “Windhoek North” exit as mentioned above.
Return flight:
Pleasant bistro in the terminal, check-in and passport control much easier than upon entry. We were already farewelled by a thunderstorm in Windhoek — followed by another during takeoff!
⸻
Conclusion
Overall, a magnificent holiday in a fascinating country, full of spectacular moments as well as smaller, surprising discoveries and experiences.
From an ornithological perspective, it was a challenge — about 150 new bird species for me.
Many thanks for your prompt assistance with identification questions, even while you were on your own guided tour, and for sharing your photos.
I’ll be happy to provide you with my own sightings and processed images — at the latest during the CMT in January in Stuttgart.
Roundtrip Natura (Diverse Namibia)– small group safari – Oct. 2025
„Roundtrip Natura – small group safari“
Dear Albert,
The origins of our trip were shaped by quite a few coincidences. Although Southern Africa was indeed on our travel wish list, we went to the CMT fair in January this year for completely different reasons. We also entered the “travel hall” purely by chance, and I only noticed your stand when I happened to turn around. 😊 Today, we are very grateful for all these coincidences — it seems it was simply meant to be.
With the “Diversitas” trip that you planned and organized for us, we may very well have caught the Namibia virus.
We are thrilled! With Diversitas, we embraced many new things for us: planning (which I usually do myself), organization and bookings, having a guide, being driven, and traveling in a group that consists of more than just family.
The way you put this trip together, dear Albert, was excellent. The coordination with the lodges worked perfectly, and the accommodation was very well selected and truly beautiful. Our favourites were:
• For the location: Rostock Ritz, Twyfelfontein Adventure Camp, Gocheganas
• For the ambience/interior: Omandumba, Onguma Bush Camp, Mount Etjo, Gocheganas and Brigadoon Boutique Guesthouse
• For the staff: everyone was very kind, welcoming, and dedicated; however, we especially loved the family atmosphere at Omandumba Bush Camp.
We had two allergy sufferers in our little group — Wentzel had his hands full at times clarifying everything. It also led to some funny moments. At Omandumba and Mount Etjo, they went out of their way and served separate dishes by the platter — so kind! Everyone really made an effort to accommodate it.
A few minor suggestions for improvement: better ventilation or air conditioning at Rostock Ritz, the food at Gocheganas (which we have already discussed with you in detail by phone), and the air conditioning at Taleni Etosha (which varied in effectiveness).
With our guide, Wentzel Mall, we truly hit the jackpot. Already when he picked us up at the airport, we immediately connected with him. Even on the drive to Gocheganas Lodge, he already showed and told us so much. From the reports on your guest page, I gathered that you only work with top guides — and we are absolutely thrilled with Wentzel. His deep knowledge of flora and fauna, geology, and Namibia’s social landscape gave us a wonderful insight into this amazing country. He quickly turned our little group into a team — of course, we were very happy to contribute 😊. Through wildlife spotting, numerous activities, great sundowners, and all the evenings spent together, we truly became friends.
He is also an excellent driver, very aware of what’s happening around and inside the vehicle. His deep connection with nature and his client-focused approach made these two weeks even more meaningful. With help and advice, he supported us as “bush newbies” every step of the way. We are very happy that we booked a guided small-group tour — we would surely have missed many aspects had we travelled alone.
Namibia is something special — the landscapes, the people, the abundant wildlife. The ecosystem is incredibly fascinating, and the ancient geological heritage of this land is impressive. We also learned a lot about the local tribes, the present-day situation, and gained insights into where challenges still exist. One could fill many pages with it all.
If there is something that could be enhanced: personally, I would plan two nights in Sossusvlei and likewise two nights in Mount Etjo — but of course, that also depends on the available time.
All in all, everything was truly wonderful. We enjoyed it immensely and will cherish these memories for a long time to come.
Thank you very much as well for the lovely starter set. Sending warm greetings from autumn-coloured Gauting.
Ulla, Markus and Vici
Roundtrip Natura – small group safari – Oct. 2025
„Roundtrip Natura – small group safari“
Dear Leaflove Team,
Nittya and I have been back for two days now from our beautiful journey through Namibia.
We really enjoyed the route, as it offered us a wonderful variety – cities, ocean, deserts and savannas, national parks and abundant wildlife. Wentzel took excellent care of us. He was extremely attentive and considerate and, with his extensive knowledge, helped us to understand the people, the land, the history, fauna and flora of Namibia.
What I particularly appreciated was his polite and respectful manner towards the people we met along the way.
All in all, we spent a wonderful time in Namibia and truly enjoyed the journey.
We were also very lucky with our fellow travellers. The F…-R… family were very pleasant companions.
As a small note, I would like to mention that due to the size of the country and the length of the tour, a brief note in your travel brochure about the long driving distances between destinations could be interesting and helpful. It helps to know that some sections include longer drives, often on gravel roads.
I will gladly recommend your services further.
Warm greetings from autumnal Carinthia,
N. and M.
Self drive Tour “Ondili Natura” August / September 2025
Hello Albert,
We are now (unfortunately) back home, the suitcases are unpacked, and we want to share some feedback about our trip with you.
It was an amazing journey — perfectly planned — and we were able to enjoy Namibia to the fullest, also because we knew we had you as our backup.
Our adventure started right away with the cancellation of our flight from Stuttgart to Frankfurt. Fortunately, we were able to rebook and got a direct flight from Munich to Windhoek, arriving as early as 7:00 a.m. Luckily, we were still able to reach you and the pickup worked out perfectly. Unfortunately, we had to wait two and a half hours at immigration 🙁 Our first impression of Namibia: total chaos. Luckily, that impression quickly changed over the course of the trip 🙂
The car and the briefing at the rental agency were very good and thorough. We really appreciated the equipment — the tools and the cool box with water were great. Later in the trip, a compressor in the vehicle would have been helpful.
Your care package with the water bottles, buff, maps, and itinerary was fantastic — we used everything.
(Note on the bottles: the nice black coating rubbed off due to the bumpy Namibian roads, leaving marks on our hands and clothes. Once we padded the bottle holders in the car, the problem was solved.)
The GPS worked well overall, although it did have a bit of a mind of its own at times. Without the map, we probably wouldn’t have reached a few of our destinations.
Starting the trip in the south was a great idea. We felt that every single day was an increase in beauty — in landscapes, wildlife, and lodges. Etosha was the perfect grand finale.
Windhoek: Okay as a start. We had a nice meal at Joe’s Beerhouse — a cool place. But Windhoek is something one can skip; next time we’d just drive straight on.
Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge: A wonderful place! The two game drives were great, especially with the sundowner. We really enjoyed the hikes around the lodge — being able to walk and experience the silence and nature up close was wonderful. Unfortunately, the color-marked trails didn’t match the provided map, but we found our way back 😉
Namib Outpost: A lodge with a stunning location and an exceptionally good team — probably the best of all. Everyone was dedicated, professional, and happy to help. You can really tell they love working there.
We were given a lodge with four beds, which surprised us a little — are they all like that or did we pay extra?
Your tip to visit “Big Daddy” first and Sossusvlei later was spot-on. We got there before the crowds, and the return through Deadvlei was much quieter. We couldn’t quite find the start of Big Daddy, so we first climbed a smaller dune and then continued on — still an incredible experience. Sliding down the dune was pure joy, like skiing through powder snow!
Sesriem Canyon: Beautiful, definitely worth a visit. We would have liked a bit more information though — how far to go, if it’s a round trip, etc. Luckily, a guide told us to also walk left to find the water.
The bad weather was already approaching here, and we were actually relieved that the balloon flight was canceled — with the clouds, it wouldn’t have been worth it. Instead, we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the lodge.
Solitaire: A must-stop! Such a charming place, full of character. Uwe was absolutely thrilled — we could hardly leave 😉 I especially loved the sign showing the rainfall over the years.
Rostock Ritz Desert Lodge: Simple but good, with a very friendly team. We added a sundowner drive — great guide, though the view was partly hidden by the weather.
Drive to Swakopmund: The GPS constantly tried to send us to Zimbabwe! Luckily, we had a map. Unfortunately, we missed Henno Martin’s cave — would have loved to see it.
The waterholes at Ganab and Hotsas were empty, but — surprise — it rained on that route! We really didn’t expect that in Namibia.
Walvis Bay and Moon Landscape: The Welwitschias were fascinating — the ones outside the fenced area were even nicer. But the road from the plants to the Moon Landscape was the worst we drove on. The Moon Landscape itself, however, was spectacular.
Swakopmund: Great location, excellent breakfast. The room itself was nice but a bit dated — mold in the shower, peeling paint, a few cosmetic issues. (Uwe took pictures if you’re interested.)
The Little Five tour was fun — we saw everything except a scorpion, even two chameleons! The guide was great, though the industrial surroundings of Swakopmund took away a bit of the atmosphere.
Jetty 1905 was fantastic despite the bad weather. Also, the café at the pier — “Doughnut1877” — is a must! Amazing cakes.
I enjoyed my shopping afternoon… and Uwe was relieved there was only one 😉
Spitzkoppe: Breathtaking area! After entering the park, we felt a bit lost — the map and the briefing weren’t clear. We thought the guide would take us through the area, but he only showed us the rock paintings (very well explained, though). He vaguely pointed us toward the Rock Arch, and eventually we found it. Quite a few people there, unfortunately.
Hohenstein Lodge: We wondered if there could still be an improvement — and there was! Fantastic location! However, we felt the staff were still learning. No one knew much about the hiking routes, and the service at dinner was sweet but insecure. The wine and food menu was extensive, but most items were unavailable. Still, we had a lovely meal in the end.
The highlight: housekeeping set up a bed on the roof so we could sleep under the Milky Way — absolutely unforgettable.
Upon departure, we noticed a slow puncture. The staff eventually brought a compressor and inflated the tire — it kept losing air slightly afterward but not enough to cause trouble.
Twyfelfontein Country Lodge: On arrival, we were shocked — three tour buses! Beautiful lodge, but too many people.
We asked for a walking option to escape the crowds and got a kind of treasure hunt with 18 stops — each with interesting info about flora, fauna, and rock art. Very well done, and we were alone.
The elephant drive the next morning was good — only six guests. We saw elephants quickly and I was overjoyed! About ten other vehicles, all behaved respectfully. However, the tour was shorter than expected (2.5h instead of 4h, no drive through the riverbed), so we were a bit disappointed.
The second activity, the local Twyfelfontein tour, was not worth it — we could have easily done it ourselves. For 1350 N$, it was poor value.
Petrified Forest (Blaauwkranz): We arrived early, no one around. After a short hike, we reached the petrified trees, then a young local guide came running up in flip-flops, breathless but full of enthusiasm. He gave a great tour and told us about his training as a guide. At the exit, we paid 200 N$ per person — at first, we thought we’d been overcharged, but it was worth it.
When leaving, he asked if we could give him a lift to Khorixas to pay his school fees. We hesitated briefly but agreed — and got his whole life story during the drive 😉 A lovely, memorable encounter.
Etosha Oberland Lodge: Another level up! Absolutely fantastic — the waterhole with so many animals, rhinos up close — unforgettable. Nothing to complain about!
The full-day game drive was good — great guide, small group, lots of animals including lions — but we wouldn’t do it again. Too many vehicles crowding for the best spot, no “nature feeling.”
The next day, driving ourselves was much more rewarding — so peaceful and full of wildlife. We stayed over ten hours in the park, completely absorbed.
Small note: there’s no fuel station in the park, even though the map says there is! We almost miscalculated.
Also, the only unfriendly Namibians we met were the ladies at the park gate — fiercer than the lions 😉
Onguma “The Fort”: Beyond words — just perfect. Could there be a better place to celebrate a wedding anniversary? Dinner with that stunning view felt like you had planned it that way. The evening hot tub under the stars with champagne — pure magic!
The game drive was fine, but we would have preferred another self-drive (if we’d had fuel). Few animals that day — maybe due to the fires.
About the fires: From Oberland Lodge we could see the flames at night — quite worrying. Inside the park, much of the grass was burnt, though trees were still green. We even had to turn back once as the smoke came too close. Thankfully, it didn’t affect our journey, but we can only imagine what it means for nature.
We skipped the meteorite visit and went straight to Okonjima Plains Camp. At the gate, we were pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade! Another wonderful lodge, with a great birdwatching lounge. Sadly, not much time to enjoy it since we had to pack.
Leopard tracking: Fantastic guide with lots of knowledge. We found a leopard quickly — he was sleeping at first, but later stretched and posed like a model, giving us perfect photo opportunities. Then we met his female companion, also strikingly beautiful. A wonderful farewell experience.
We wondered later what happens to the cheetahs in the smaller enclosure — are they released or relocated to other reserves? Our guide said they are kept there to reduce human–wildlife conflict, but space must be limited eventually. Do you know more about that?
The next morning, we left at 6 a.m. The lodge provided an excellent packed breakfast.
Returning the vehicle in Windhoek was a bit rough — even though we’d arranged 9 a.m., the office was closed and we had to wait 30 minutes. Not a big deal, just a bit annoying.
Summary:
Albert, you and your team did a fantastic job. This trip was a dream come true — perfectly organized, and you were always there when we had questions, yet we had total freedom to travel independently.
The accommodations often exceeded our expectations.
We’ve already recommended Leaflove to friends from Graz and can definitely imagine another trip with you.
Next time: the Okavango Delta and Victoria Falls — but first, we’ll have to save up a bit 😉
Many greetings from cold and rainy Swabia,
Melanie & Uwe
Self drive Tour “Namibian Wonders” August / September 2025
Dear Mr. Voigts von Schütz,
We have now successfully completed our self-drive journey Highlights of Namibia. In short, the trip was well organized, we enjoyed ourselves, and we are grateful that everything worked out smoothly.
That said, I would like to raise a few critical points:
Vehicle:
The rattling noise in the vehicle on rough roads was quite irritating in the beginning. Your team at Namib’s Roos resolved the issue quickly and thoroughly, for which we are thankful. However, I do feel this could have been checked and addressed beforehand.
That said, in comparison with other self-drive vehicles we saw on the road, we were actually quite happy to have had the good fortune of the vehicle you provided us with. Given that Namibian roads are often not well suited to many cars, we felt reassured to be in a vehicle that was ultimately up to the task. Thank you for that.
Sossusvlei:
We had expected a journey with limited contact to other tourists. Although you did warn us about travelling in the high season, we were still surprised by just how overcrowded Sossusvlei was. In hindsight, we should have followed your suggestion of staying only at Wolwedans. From our perspective, Sossusvlei is no longer recommendable due to the mass tourism.
Road conditions:
The vehicle managed the routes overall quite well, but the stretch between the desert and Swakopmund was in such poor condition that we felt almost unsafe at times, even though we drove slowly and carefully. Thank you for your valuable “gravel road etiquette” notes; without them, matters could easily have turned worse.
Etosha National Park:
Our experiences in the Erongo, at Twyfelfontein, and elsewhere were very positive. However, Etosha was again disappointing in parts: especially around Okaukuejo, it was extremely crowded. At lion sightings we found ourselves queuing up with dozens of other vehicles, which, to us, completely ruins the wildlife experience. By contrast, in the east at Onguma Lodge, we joined a guided game drive which was calmer, more individual, and, although we did not see big cats, far more enjoyable for me as a nature photographer.
Private reserves:
The private nature reserves such as Okonjima and Mount Etjo were a real highlight. Here I felt guided locally and individually, without the sense of being surrounded by thousands of other tourists. These experiences were far more rewarding.
In conclusion:
Even though you did caution us, I feel there should be a stronger warning that the areas around Sossusvlei, Twyfelfontein, and Okaukuejo are so heavily overrun with tourists during the high season that they are best visited only briefly, or possibly skipped altogether. Of course, this is just my personal view. These sites are undoubtedly beautiful, but for me, as someone who values more individual experiences, they were not ideal.
Overall, however, everything else was well arranged, and we sincerely thank you for your efforts. Perhaps there will be another opportunity in the future.
With kind regards, Hermann S.
Guided Join-Us Journey “Wildlife Big 5 – Slow & Natural” August / September 2025
“What fills the heart, overflows from the mouth.”
Big Four and ground squirrels – or was it the Big Five?
Dear Albert,
We have been physically back in Germany for over a week now, yet our souls still linger in Namibia. The Native Americans are right when they say: “Do not travel faster than your soul can fly.”
Our journey with you was simply indescribable – but I will try nonetheless.
Already long before departure, at our very first encounter at the travel fair, you stood out from all the other providers. On the one hand, through the wonderfully designed booth (surely thanks to your Lisa), and on the other, through your attentive and genuine manner. You didn’t want to “sell” us anything, you wanted to understand our wishes and needs. That convinced us immediately.
Our expectations changed a lot during the preparation – from a slow, leisurely trip for 4–6 people including two in their 80s, to a journey in a small group of max. 6, aiming for the Big Five and, if possible, the Victoria Falls. At every stage, you were able to adapt to our evolving wishes. That was fantastic, and it made our decision to travel with you an easy one.
The contact with you in advance was excellent – you always responded promptly, and you proactively sent us valuable information about visas, currency exchange, and more.
When we finally set off on August 17th, we met the other couples who would be our companions. Although strangers at first, thanks to your intuition we harmonized from the very beginning. Similar ages, similar interests, and the same curiosity about your beautiful homeland – the group dynamic worked wonderfully.
Our tour first took us north and northwest towards the Skeleton Coast, in search of the rare desert elephants. Finding them felt like looking for a needle in a haystack. But you never gave up, patiently tracking footprints, dung, and feeding signs until, in the end, we found them – entirely to ourselves. What an intimate experience! We sat in silence as the elephants approached us so closely we could have touched them. You explained their warning signals and body language, yet these giants were simply curious and relaxed. A moment forever etched into our hearts.
From there, we continued to Etosha National Park, where an overwhelming abundance of wildlife awaited: lions, cheetahs, zebras, antelope, elephants, wildebeest, both black and white rhinos, and even a charming colony of ground squirrels. And of course, birds – countless birds. You recognized every single one, whether perched, in flight, juvenile, in breeding plumage or in everyday feathers. You opened up an entirely new world of observation for us.
You also showed us that not only the “giants” impress: agama lizards, puff adders, and tortoises became fascinating through your stories and knowledge. Your depth of expertise in geology, history, flora and fauna is extraordinary – a walking encyclopedia, but always shared so naturally and engagingly.
Next, we headed into Bwabwata National Park and the Caprivi Strip – pure adventure in a region far beyond the reach of most self-drivers. Deep sand tracks, floodplains, hidden trails – our high-clearance 4×4 was put to the test, yet with you at the wheel we felt safe at every moment, even over 2,000 km.
Your choice of lodges was perfect: from rustic to luxurious, but always in stunning locations, with delicious meals and breathtaking views. The true luxury was not the décor, but the setting, the atmosphere, and the joy of dining together – carefree and without a single stomach problem.
Our last lodges lay directly on the Kwando and Chobe Rivers. From the boat we discovered another world: crocodiles, hippos in herds of 40–50, monitor lizards, elephants, monkeys, baboons, vast buffalo herds, and endless birdlife – colonies of Yellow-billed Storks, Goliath and Black-crowned Night Herons, and so much more. My eyes and heart could hardly take it all in. And on a game drive, I finally saw my long-awaited leopard – completing our Big Five.
And then came the true test of a super-guide: At the Botswana border we realized we had left our passports and about €1,000 in the safe of a lodge 200 km back. Crossing was impossible. Calmly and with humor, you rerouted us through the floodplains – no roads, just compass, sand dunes, mud, and tall grass. Between calls to your many contacts, you even managed to pull another local vehicle out of the sand. Amazingly, the next day our passports and money were fully returned. Thanks to your composure, we never felt stressed or deprived of time – instead, it became a bonus adventure, enriching the journey even further.
This situation highlighted once again how perfectly you had put our group together. What could have caused frustration turned into shared laughter and adventure. And so, when our trip ended at the Victoria Falls, we were no longer strangers but friends who had shared 17 unforgettable days.
Albert, you are simply unbeatable. We would put the best time of the year into your hands again in a heartbeat – for Namibia and southern Africa, only with you.
Thank you for this indescribably beautiful journey and unforgettable experiences.
Moni & Uli
Guided Join-Us Journey “Wildlife Big 5 – Slow & Natural” August / September 2025
Dear Albert,
The Benguela Current and its cold wind, Black Forest cake at Café Anton,
lunch with Nikola at Village Café, Hartlaub’s and Kelp Gulls alongside seals on the beach,
fish & chips at Fork’n Nice – Swakopmund was our private overture.
“Wildlife B5 – Slow & Natural”
Seventeen days on the road with you, dear Albert, brought us closer to your homeland than we could ever have imagined.
In Windhoek we met, for the very first time, our four fellow travelers of the Join-us Tour. Once again, your instinct was spot-on. It was perfect from the beginning, and the group composition could not have been better. You succeeded in turning strangers into friends, in captivating us all with your stories so much that we never tired of listening. We even grumbled when you didn’t immediately switch on the microphone in the jeep – that’s how eager we were to hear more.
You always had endless patience for our endless questions. We could feel your deep love and passion for your work and for your country. You have a true gift: the ability to inspire people, to explain things in depth and breadth, to highlight background and context, to awaken understanding. Please never stop doing that.
And you have a sharp eye for the well-camouflaged. Early on, you spotted a puff adder on the road, teaching us that while such animals demand respect, they should not provoke fear or panic. We hold the greatest respect and admiration for you and for the people of this extraordinary land who protect it and allow us to experience it.
You joked with us that this was not a holiday but an adventure. For us, it was a dream come true – a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and for that we are deeply grateful. We savored every moment.
Elephants in endless numbers – we never tired of watching them, greeting them and saying farewell. We called them our “lucky elephants,” because we truly saw them almost every day. And indeed, they brought us luck throughout the journey: we saw a lion family trotting across a sandy track, a massive buffalo herd with oxpeckers busily at work, a cheetah surrounded by vehicles in Etosha, rhinos on the very first day, and of course hippos upon hippos, antelope, zebra, warthogs, bat-eared foxes, and a beautiful leopard – and so much more. And birds, of course, including some rare ones, perhaps precisely because this wasn’t a birding tour. We had luck on our side. The Big Five – elephant, buffalo, leopard, white rhino, and lion – we ticked them all, even though that was never our main goal.
Every encounter thrilled us, we soaked it all in, never once bored, savoring each and every second.
And the lodges – we are still in awe. Each one felt like a dream, and each deserves ten out of five stars! Stylish, unforgettable, incomparable – we didn’t even think of comparing them to anything else in the world.
At the end of the group tour, the Zovu Elephant Lodge with Peter and Esther became our sanctuary, a place with true addiction factor. It was like staying with friends. The daily boat rides with Peter to watch the sundown among herds of elephants on the Chobe, massive crocodiles, hippo families, pied kingfishers, sacred ibises, fish eagles, and the ingenious hamerkops spreading their wings like umbrellas to shade the water – what a privilege it was to experience and learn all this thanks to you.
You drove us safely and calmly over tar, gravel, through sand and across the Kasika floodplains to the Chobe. Everything went smoothly and securely.
At the Chobe we bid you and our new friends – Margitta & Fritz, Moni & Uli – a sad farewell. You continued on to Victoria Falls, while we stayed a few more days with Esther and Peter before moving on to Zambia and the Zambezi.
We remain deeply impressed by this fantastic land – its vastness, its colors and shapes, its wildlife and flora, and above all its resilient and extraordinarily friendly people. They taught us an incomparable optimism, despite hardship, heat, and desert. You, Albert, taught us to read the animals a little better, to see the “light and shadow” of Namibia more clearly and more closely.
It was pure joy to be your guests – thank you for everything. Namibia already had a place in our hearts, but now it is even more firmly rooted.
We read much of this text to you in farewell, signed by all of us with heartfelt thanks –

Guided Join-Us Journey “Wildlife Big 5 – Slow & Natural” August / September 2025
Dream Journey Namibia
(Small-group “Wildlife B5” from 18.08 – 03.09.2025)
After many holidays of every kind,
a cruise on the sea or a house we could find,
a campervan journey across distant lands,
one dream remained, long held in our hands.
A longing for nature, for wildlife pure,
Africa beckoned with a guided tour.
We thought and we pondered on time and on place,
on routes and on lodges, the guide and the pace.
Our choice was Leaflove Safari at last,
with Albert Voigts von Schütz we cast.
The “Wildlife B5 – Slow & Natural” call,
a small-group safari, the best of all.
From Windhoek arrival, right from the start,
Albert’s care was finest, with all of his heart.
His passion for nature, for creatures untamed,
is vital for safaris, and must be acclaimed.
His vast knowledge charmed us, in joyful array,
explained with such humour along the way.
With him we discovered a wealth beyond measure,
species too many to count, yet a treasure.
The distance he kept to the wildlife was right,
with care for protection, respect in our sight.
Through acacia savannas by Mount Etjo we roamed,
to Twyfelfontein’s wonders where ancient art’s homed,
then Etosha, Mahango by Okavango’s flow,
Caprivi’s Bwabwata, Mudumo also.
Chobe’s great elephants, mighty and tall,
then Victoria Falls — the crown of it all.
Eight lodges we stayed in, each splendid, each bright,
fine food and comfort, a true sheer delight.
Our group of six, together we thrived,
with Albert our guide, adventure alive.
The landscapes, the game drives, the creatures galore,
exceeded our hopes, and gave us much more.
Perhaps there will come a second chance too,
and if so, Leaflove will be the one we pursue.

Guided Private Tour Ondili Meumbo in August 2025:
“Ondili Meumbo”
Dear Albert,
We arrived back safely in Munich this morning. Thank you so much for a wonderful and perfectly organized trip with our fantastic guide Hartmut!
As promised, here is our detailed feedback:
LODGES
a) Our favorite: Otjiwa Mountain Lodge
→ Exceptionally stylish and high-quality design. By far the best food of all lodges. Super friendly team. Great activities (though we only tried the massage) – we’re sure the drives are excellent as well, since we saw many animals just on the way in and out. We even considered doing the night drive.
b) Our other favorites (we couldn’t agree on a ranking):
Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge
→ Fantastic drives (sundowner, morning). We loved the hiking trails and tried a two-hour dune walk on our own. Good food, very friendly staff, beautifully furnished.
Wolwedans Desert Lodge
→ Despite the well-known areas for improvement, this place offered the most unique “Out of Africa” feeling and the most spectacular landscapes of our trip. Fun and engaging drives (sundowner, morning) with Eric. Very good food.
Hohenstein Lodge
→ Beautiful minimalist design. Spacious, stylish rooms (we had a family suite with large living room and terrace with lots of seating). Bicycle rental, plus the chance to explore the grounds on your own – we saw plenty of wildlife this way. Several hiking trails available, which we unfortunately didn’t try. We would have loved to stay longer.
Camp Kipwe
→ Spectacular setting, with a stunning sundowner spot high above the lodge. Excellent food and management. Our suites were sensational and took the experience to another level. Again, we wished we had stayed longer.
Etosha Oberland Lodge
→ Swimming in the pool while watching rhinos – unforgettable. Good food, tasteful and spacious rooms, as on all Ondili lodges.
c) The other lodges:
Ti Melen
→ Nice guesthouse, but nothing special, and a bit out of the way.
Namib Outpost
→ I personally really liked it, Luis and Joachim less so. Stunning sundowner viewpoint, which was magical despite the icy cold. Unfortunately very few animals at the waterhole. In warmer weather, the overall impression would surely be more positive, with the chance to enjoy the terraces and pools. Food not quite as good as at other Ondili lodges, but that may have just been the day.
Brigadoon Guesthouse
→ Very charming guesthouse with great design and attentive management. Perfect location close to the town center and waterfront restaurants.
Doro Nawas
→ Cool, rugged atmosphere, which I actually enjoyed. But within our family ranking it ended up near the bottom – probably because compared to Ondili it feels more basic. However, the food was among the best, and the buffet was a nice change.
Emanya Lodge
→ The ugly duckling of our trip 😉 Yet, there was plenty to like: the largest and cleanest pool of all lodges, and the waterhole with the biggest variety of animals. The design felt more like an Ibiza beach club. Unfortunately the outdoor furniture was old and cheap, umbrellas broken, AC units dripping. Overall a neglected, improvised impression. Staff was friendly, but seemed a bit down. Suggestion: Ondili should take this one over as their base in the east of Etosha. With new management and a little investment, it could become a very cool lodge with Ibiza-beach vibes.
ROUTE
The route worked out perfectly for us – we felt we got to know many different sides of Namibia. If we were to plan again with today’s knowledge, we might make a few small changes:
Skip the overnight in Windhoek (just drive through) and go straight to Kalahari Red Dunes Lodge.
Spend 3 nights in Swakopmund (though that may be because we were lucky with the weather – only fog on the day of departure).
2 nights at Hohenstein Lodge, for relaxing and hiking.
2 nights at Camp Kipwe (I know we had to split because of availability).
Skip eastern Etosha, instead 3 nights at Etosha Oberland Lodge (2 drives into Etosha would have been enough, since we had already seen so much wildlife before).
2 nights at Otjiwa Mountain Lodge.
ONDILI
All Ondili lodges are outstanding overall – beautifully designed and laid out, with motivated, friendly staff, and everything spotless. The full board plus is also a real treat (though not great for my alcohol consumption 😉 ). I would recommend each and every one of them without hesitation.
CONCLUSION
Our best trip ever! Many thanks! Hartmut practically became part of our family 🙂 We will miss him. We learned so much from him about fauna, flora, the country and its people.
We are already thinking about returning in 2027, spending more time in some places and combining the trip with Botswana, Victoria Falls, and the north. Thank you as well for the wonderful care package with info, adapters, water bottles, and the beautifully designed materials from Lisa.
I will post my recommendations with Herr Bertie and also on Instagram. And I look forward to having you join us in one of our online sessions after the relaunch in fall/winter, as our destination expert. Maybe we’ll also meet at CMT.
See you soon,
Best regards,
Tanja
Guided Private Tour to Namibia’s Main Attractions in April 2025:
“Diverse Namibia”
Dear Albert,
Although our Namibia trip is already more than a month behind us, we still think about it so often.
It was simply fantastic!
We saw and experienced so much – unique landscapes, breathtaking moods, and for us, an absolutely incredible array of wildlife.
For 18 days, we were chauffeured through this beautiful country by our top-notch guide and driver, Hartmut Kolb.
We stayed in lovely and comfortable lodges, met kind people, and ate well.
You really put together a great tour for us, and the two days on your farm got us perfectly into the right spirit for the journey.
A warm and friendly relationship developed with Hartmut, and saying goodbye at the airport wasn’t easy.
Thank you for your dedication and the wonderful organization – we’ll definitely recommend Leaflove Safaris to others.

Guided Private Tour to Erongo, Etosha, via Otavi towards Otjiwa – May 2025
“Wildlife for Elke & Matthias”
Good morning Albert,
I already mentioned at Tivoli how unfortunate it was that you only picked up Klaus and Ina the day after our departure – I would have loved the chance to meet you in person as well. 😊 I hope your tour with them was just as great!
Our tour with Didi was, once again, fantastic. Didi and Terry absolutely spoiled us at Erongo Rocks (we were practically fattened up with delicious food 😅), and we would have happily stayed longer just to explore more of the wonderful scenery. It had such a feel-good vibe!
The lodges were also excellent. Oberland Lodge, with its beautiful old Indian wooden doors (right up my alley!) and the view of the waterhole – just perfect. The Forest Camp (renamed “Forsthaus” by Matthias 😊) had that cosy charm again, and our one night at Otjiwa was, as always, way too short to really enjoy. We did join the rhino tracking on the last morning, which was a brilliant grand finale. The wine tasting was another great idea – Diane is an absolutely delightful young woman who really conveyed her passion for what she does. Naturally, each of us ended up squeezing a bottle of wine into our luggage. 😉
The lush green Etosha National Park was, of course, another highlight! The water in the Etosha Pan reminded us a lot of the North Sea, and I think we saw every single zebra living there. Would happily go again! 😊
And as it usually goes, everyday life has quickly caught up with us again. 🤪 So your gentle nudge for feedback came at the right time! Many thanks once again for the lovingly compiled travel documents!
During the journey, it already started to become clear that our next trip will probably head towards the Caprivi. We’ll definitely reach out to you again! 😉
Warmest greetings from Germany,
Elke
The Leaflove guided Safari, created for a family with special interest in Nature:
“Namibian Wonders” in November 2024
guided by Alfred Schultz
Dear Albert,
It’s incredible how quickly time has flown by, and now our vacation in Namibia has already come to an end.
We had an absolutely wonderful time, experienced so many amazing things, and created countless unforgettable memories. The lodges you selected for us were each unique in their own way. The people were incredibly friendly, and the food was always of an exceptionally high standard!
The best decision (besides booking this trip with you) was having Alfred with us.
He is absolutely incredible—a walking encyclopedia! There wasn’t a single question during the entire trip that he couldn’t answer thoroughly and knowledgeably.
Whether it was about animals of any kind, plants, or other topics related to Namibia, he had all the answers. And we had so much fun with him—he truly became part of the family.
So, let me say a big thank you! Everything was perfect, and we will definitely recommend you.
We’ll see you in January at the CMT!
All the best to you, warm regards, and thanks again (also for the practical water bottles).

The Leaflove Self-Drive Tour:
“Namibian Wonders with additional days & luxury accommodation” in September 2024
Dear Albert,
Three weeks ago, we returned from our three-week self-drive tour through Namibia that you organized for us, and we are still in awe. From start to finish, every moment was perfectly planned, and we felt very well taken care of.
The tour you put together for us was exactly what we were looking for. In addition to booking beautiful accommodations and arranging great activities, your many tips were incredibly helpful. We always had enough time to explore Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes and national parks. We also had plenty of opportunities to relax and absorb all the experiences we were having.
The Toyota Land Cruiser was the perfect vehicle for the roads in Namibia, and with the Garmin preloaded with our routes, we always reached our destinations without a hitch.
A very special highlight for us was visiting your farm, Nomtsas. You, Lisa, and Lennart welcomed us so warmly, and we felt completely at home. Trixie spoiled us with delicious meals. Please send our warmest regards to everyone. Your hospitality and the cozy evenings where we learned so much about the land, its people, and Namibia’s history made our stay with you unforgettable.
On the farm, we gained fascinating insights into life and daily routines on a cattle farm. We are still impressed by how you manage the challenges each day and with how much love and care you nurture the land and take care of the animals that live there.
And the country itself! The memories of the vastness, the silence, and the many diverse landscapes continue to resonate in our hearts. We were particularly struck by the dune landscapes in Namib Naukluft Park. Standing speechless on Big Daddy, we enjoyed the stunning view. Seeing animals in their natural habitat—ones we had only known from the zoo—was awe-inspiring. How graceful a giraffe is, how majestic an elephant or a lion can be. And let’s not forget the small creatures of the desert.
Once again, thank you so much for the perfect organization of our trip, Albert. We can only highly recommend Leaflove to anyone planning a trip to Namibia.
Many warm greetings,
Markus and Karin
The Leaflove Self-Drive Tour:
“Namibian Wonders” in October 2024
Dear Albert,
Warm greetings from Switzerland, where a magical fog currently blankets the valleys and we nature lovers get to admire the spectacle “from above.” Our journey is worth telling – we can’t stop raving about it and are endlessly grateful. Had we taken your advice to include Wolwedans and book the villa at Okonjima, the trip might have been even more spectacular, but we’ll make up for that next time.
Nonetheless, we were more than thrilled, especially to explore your country as self-drivers, appreciating how well-organized and thoughtfully laid out everything was. Thank you for all your effort and the special care you showed when we weren’t feeling our best. One thing is certain: this won’t be our last time – we’ll see each other again!
All the best and see you soon!

To the Main Attractions & the Damaraland of Namibia, Including Farm Stays and Tented Camps:
“W & M – Roundtrip” in July 2024
Dear Albert,
Back home now, and what a contrast to the unforgettable stay we had in Africa. After our return, we’re trying to process all the impressions and experiences.
Your comprehensive, informative, and helpful planning greatly contributed to the success of our tour. We really appreciated how you took our wishes into account and made them a reality. The mix of tented chalets (self-catering), farmhouse, and lodges suited us very well. The stages were well coordinated, and your information was very helpful.
The communication and contact with you during the trip gave us an added sense of security. A highlight was the dinner with you and Lisa in Swakopmund.
We always felt a bit privileged with the Toyota Land Cruiser compared to the Hilux drivers. The vehicle reliably and safely guided us over all the tracks. Thank you for the upgrade.
Starting in the south and then heading north worked very well for us. It’s a joy when there are few people around, and it feels like the “whole world” belongs to you.
We were able to gather our first impressions of the wildlife and the impressive landscapes in the Kalahari and on the drive to the Fish River Canyon. The endless expanse of steppes and savannas, occasionally interrupted by a mountain range, has a special fascination. Sometimes rugged and steep, or with flat-topped cliffs, they form natural barriers. The various shades of color, from pastel to reddish-brown to ochre, are unbelievably beautiful to behold.
The canyon is an absolute must-see. The deep incision with its steep walls and the length of the trench are impressive. As a human being, you feel very, very small.
We experienced just how barren and inhospitable a desert can be in the Namib. It’s amazing that life still exists here despite everything. What nature has created in Sossusvlei is among the most beautiful things we have ever seen.
After all the sand, rock formations, mountains, and barren landscapes (Spitzkoppe, Erongo), the desire for wildlife grows as you approach Etosha Park. We were not disappointed by the diversity and abundance of animals. We encountered them in large numbers at waterholes and also along the roadside. On the first day, we came across a herd of elephants with a newborn calf. We were able to witness how the little one, clumsy and uncertain, took its first steps. We also saw rhinos, but unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any big cats.
At Etosha Safari Camp, we were woken up by the sound of hoofbeats on both mornings. Right next to the tent, zebras and giraffes were grazing.
We thoroughly enjoyed the game drives. Experienced and open-minded guides brought us closer to the plant and animal world with lots of interesting information.
Thank you very much for the exciting tour and the diverse insight into Namibia’s land and people. We will definitely recommend Leaflove Safari to our friends.
We wish you all the best and much success with Leaflove Safari.
Best regards,
Manfred and Marion
The self-drive individual Safari “Namibian Wonders”, organized as a family safari in June 2024
We arrived home safely today. On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you and your staff for organizing such a fantastic trip. Everything went smoothly, the lodges were very beautiful—each with its own character or charm—and the tips and tricks in your little handbook were also very helpful, as was the possibility to ask you for advice via WhatsApp on short notice.
In addition to your suggestions, we also did a dune excursion in Sandwich Harbour while in Swakopmund (absolutely beautiful) and stopped at the crocodile farm halfway on our way back from Etosha to Windhoek. And on Friday night, my teenagers dragged me to a nightclub in Windhoek…
If you need photos as testimonials for your website, we would be happy to provide them.
Kind regards,
Markus
The self-drive individual Safari to selected highlights of Namibia, including Kaokoland & Etosha. May 2024
Dear Albert and Lisa,
Today, we’ve reached the final leg of our fantastic journey. We’d love to bid farewell in person with a glass of wine and chat for hours about all the unique moments we’ve experienced over the past three weeks. Unfortunately, we’ll have to say goodbye via WhatsApp, but we want to sincerely thank you for the perfect planning. From the route planning to the clever selection of lodges and the choice of car rental company, not to mention the personal touches like the glass of champagne – everything was perfect. This trip has deeply moved us, and we’ll always carry it in our hearts and share it at home. Hopefully, we’ll see you again at the Trade Fair in 2025!
Best wishes and all the best,
Achim and Brigitte
Review of Achim and Brigitte of the newly renovated Emanya Lodge in the eastern Part near Etosha National Park.
Dear Albert,
We are happy to share our impressions of the EMANYA Lodge, where we stayed at the end of May for two nights.
First and foremost, this lodge was a highlight for us. Its modern elegance, especially the main house, serves as a distinct contrast to a traditional lodge and is definitely recommendable. We couldn’t find any remnants of renovation; on the contrary, everything was clean and spacious (as the owner informed us, an interior architect from Swakopmund was involved).
Good taste is evident, for instance, in the alternating table settings with color-coordinated tablecloths, napkins, and decorations. The owners live in their own house within the grounds, which might explain their particular attention to detail.
The staff is attentive and well-trained. The breakfast buffet offers a wide selection, and the extensive meals— we counted 7 courses— were not only delicious but also visually appealing. Impressively, water features adorn the staircase leading to the lodge, and the grounds are maintained with lush lawns— they have their own wells, we learned.
The rooms are spacious in thatched-roof buildings, and the interior is stylishly designed. There’s also a large, clean pool perfect for swimming and a private waterhole attracting wildlife.
Being relatively close to Etosha Park, it’s a great alternative to Mushara. In short, the lodge offers a high level of relaxation and rejuvenation. We were truly delighted to stay there and would return without hesitation!
Best regards to Swakopmund, and wishing you a pleasant weekend,
Achim and Brigitte
P.S. Aside from praise in the lodge’s feedback form, the only suggestion was “More variety in the lounge music.” Otherwise, we couldn’t think of anything else..
The guided individual Safari to selected highlights of Namibia, February/March 2024
Even as daily life tries to catch up with us, our minds are often still lingering on our unforgettable vacation in Namibia. Thanks to you, dear Albert, we had the privilege of experiencing a breathtaking journey. This was by far the most impressive holiday of our lives!
For nearly 3 weeks, we explored the wonders of South-West Namibia, a truly beautiful and enchanting land. We, four inexperienced travelers to Africa, took quite some time to finally commit to this journey. 10 years, perhaps? Yet, from the outset, it was never in doubt that we would book with you, Albert, when the time came. And then, the time arrived, and the preparations began.
The tips and advice on your website’s “Infos” section and in your blogs were extremely helpful to us—things like packing lists, clothing, tipping, hats, etc. Communication was also reliably smooth.
Our focus for the itinerary was on nature, landscapes, people, and history. While animals were welcome, they were not our primary focus. However, we all now agree that we saw an extraordinary number of them and discovered a new side of ourselves in the process. Until now, we didn’t realize how enjoyable animal observations could be. The fascination is indescribable, especially when combined with a sundowner. Thanks to you, dear Albert, and your expertise, we are still utterly overwhelmed. And that’s no exaggeration!
Where should we begin? Dreamlike and diverse landscapes, accommodations that often left us in awe, exquisite cuisine, animal sightings of creatures with 2, 4, 6, and 8 legs (excluding millipedes and snakes), hikes in uninhabited nature, your successful and varied tour planning… and let’s not forget and underestimate: YOUR COMPANY!
Your humor, your knowledge, your hospitality, your sheer enthusiasm for birdlife… not only did this provide us with an incredibly beautiful and diverse journey, but we can also proudly say it was an educational trip for us! Including a daily book recommendation 😉
Thanks to your vast experiences and your incredible way of sharing them, we often simply enjoyed listening to you. Through this, you gave us a remarkable insight into the appealing yet challenging life in Namibia, your homeland, in a charming, lovable way that only you can.
For this, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Claudia & Günther, and Cindy & Gernot
Individually created Selfdrive Tour “10 days Namib, Swakop & Africat”
Big thank you to the Leaflove Safari Team – and Albert in particular – for having organised a “one in a lifetime” ten day selfdriving roundtrip through Namibia! We could enjoy every second of it thanks to the fantastically prepared logistics, individually chosen accommodations and activities prebooked to our taste. Thanks to his excellent contacts Albert was even able to find fairytale accommodations when one of the booked lodges burned down ten days prior to our departure. Thank You very much, we will come back!
Jochen von K.
Individually created Selfdrive Tour “Via Cats, Coast & Desert”
Dear Albert and the entire Leaflove Team,
Thank you for organizing this unforgettable trip! We traveled with our three teenage sons. Everything was organized to perfection and catered to everyone’s needs, providing a mix of action, adventure, and luxurious accommodations. The pre-programmed navigation routes and the secure car ensured our safety and peace of mind as a mother. From visiting a wild cat foundation to exploring deserts, amazing stone formations, and the coast, every moment was filled with excitement. The variety of experiences made it feel like we were traveling for months, even though it was only 2 weeks. We are already looking forward to returning and discovering the next region. We will definitely recommend Leaflove Safari to our friends. Hope to be back soon!
Warm regards, Larissa & Christoph
Birding tour “Avifauna – Namib to Zambezi 2023”
Namibia, a fantastic destination for bird enthusiasts.
For me, it was a repeat experience, as soon as my friends signed up for the tour, it was clear to me that I wanted to be part of it again. Swakopmund with the Atlantic coast and Spitzkoppe were new destinations on this tour. Since I knew Albert as a guide from the first tour, I knew that we were traveling with a highly skilled guide, and that was confirmed once again. He knows where the hotspots are, and he doesn’t rest until he can show us the rare species. This was quite challenging in the high temperatures. I think it’s a good idea to start the trip next year in September. For me, there were many highlights, such as the coast with thousands of flamingos and waders, and in the wetlands, all species of herons and storks, cranes, bustards, owls, etc. At the end, we had about 380 species on our list, including the Leaflove, the namesake for our guide Albert’s company. For me, it was once again an adventurous tour, and the repetition was a good decision.

Birding tour “Avifauna – Namib to Zambezi 2023”
We will definitely come back!
After hearing enthusiastic reports from our friends about the pilot trip to Namibia in 2022, we naturally had high expectations. And we were not disappointed! From the very beginning, we felt comfortable in the group with an ideal size of 5 participants and our tour guide, Albert. Albert had a knack for making each day special. He was tireless in showing us the highlights, resulting in us spotting a total of 391 bird species and numerous different mammals, a remarkable feat given the dry conditions.
We were very pleased with the accommodations, except for the Etosha Safari Camp, which felt ‘too crowded and touristy’ to us, but it was conveniently located near the entrance to the national park. Just 2 days after our return, Albert had already sent out the travel report along with a link to eBird—a superb service! The memories of this fantastic journey, enjoying Rock Shandy and Amarula by the campfire, and the unique atmosphere of the country linger with us. We will definitely be back!

Birding tour “Habits & Habitats” individually arranged for intensive nature observation in Namibia – 20 days
Dear Albert,
We would like to thank you again for the great and excellently organised trip and the amazing guidance by you. It was our first trip to Namibia; we deliberately wanted to focus on birds, plants and nature in general and not on any large animals. You put together a nice itinerary for us, not too long driving distances but still varied and representative of the different types of landscape. The accommodation was all very well chosen and we enjoyed it. The stay on your farm was pleasant, relaxed and yet varied with some ornithological highlights such as the golden snipe and various bustards. Unfortunately, we could only observe the secretary and the black stork flying away.
And of course you guided us in a great and competent way: Unbelievable how many bird species you were able to show and explain to us; if we had been on our own, we would only have seen a fraction of them and probably wouldn’t even have been able to identify most of them. There were so many special birds that it would be too long to list them. We were also impressed by your knowledge of geology, plants and different shrubs and trees. What we found especially nice: That you had your mother prepare a few fine dishes especially for our stay on your farm – it was delicious.
Now we will let the many impressions sink in and follow up the trip with photos and reading.
All the best from Martina and Gerhard
Join us Birding Tour “Avifauna Okavango” in the North East of Namibia – 15 days
Our trip was full of discoveries right from the start.
Thanks to our excellent tour guide, there were new highlights and completely new species to discover every day. This started in the morning before breakfast and after a full day’s programme we went out again in the evening to look for owls and nightjars, always with success. On the way to our accommodation, Albert always had local guides who searched the surroundings with us for hidden species and so we discovered the rare leaflove or the bulrush. I could list many more species, the owls thrilled me, but discovering Marina Trogon or Shalows Turaco were also highlights for me. The group with only 5 participants was of course optimal and the accommodation was a very good mix of lodges and very close-to-nature camps. A very successful trip.

Self-drive tour “Etosha KaokoDamara” in the North West of Namibia – 21 days
Hello Albert,
As promised, we are getting in touch with you again after the suitcases have been unpacked.
The trip was according to our expectations and very well prepared by you. Everything worked out. Unfortunately the big predators did not show up, ( you will have to let them know we’re coming next time).
We left the navigation system with Africa on Wheels. It worked great, only at the Waterberg it was a bit spotty.
The Waterberg de la Bat Restcamp cannot be found on the signs on the D2512. You have to drive in at …… see picture in the attachment.
It is a pity that our journey is already over. We will certainly enjoy the pictures and keep the memories alive.
Kind regards
Gaby and Siegfried

We are now back home, unfortunately, in everyday life, but often think of our impressive trip 🧳. Thank you again for the superb organisation, all four of us were totally satisfied with the choice of lodges. Otjiwa Lodge was the best. The best was saved for last 😉. The food tasted great and everything was arranged lots of love. Best regards

Albert, I don’t have words to describe this incredible, fascinating and diverse trip.
Thank you for all the unforgettable moments, 😊 all the beautiful and rare birds you discovered for us, I am totally aware that this is not a given at all.
I will remember this trip for a very, very long time 😍

Dear Mrs Kirilova
Dear Mr Stoll,
We are now back from our Namibia trip into the cold of Germany,
First of all, a big praise for the organisation of Birdingtours. I felt very well looked after at all times and always had the feeling that Mrs Kirilova was there with all her heart. Thank you for that.
I have already made many trips with Birdingtours and this trip was something very special for me. For me it was the first trip to Africa and I am still full of the many new impressions.
The trip was just perfect from my point of view. Albert was so well organised and always sovereign and we not only laughed a lot, he also told us an incredible amount about the country, the history, the nature and also about his life. Every question was answered and even at every loud “stop” we stopped for a photo. This was a great gift for me. We were able to see so many and also rare birds and that was also thanks to Albert’s tireless ambition.
I have only one criticism: the trip is already over….
Two of my friends have already signed up for the Namibia trip in 2023 and I am sure they will be as excited as I am.
Thanks again to all involved

Guided round trip to the wildlife-rich areas of Namibia – 21 days
Dear Albert, it has happened!
After a long time of hoping and worrying during this difficult time, we were actually all allowed to get off in Windhoek and spend three wonderful, carefree weeks with you, far away from Corona.
We drove through magnificent landscapes and learned many new and exciting things about people, fauna and flora. We would like to thank you very much for your planning, prudence, driving skills and especially for sharing so many episodes from your life with us. You have (once again) outdone yourself!
Of course we have made a note that you might come to Zurich in the new year and we will be at the fair to promote Leaflove Safari!
vreeslik baie Dankie Albert, it was great. All the best to you and your family,
Your Seppi & Annemarie, Maren und Fritz, Heidi and Sepp, Marina & Christian, Dolly, Renata (Mindfulness and wonderful impressions) and Bärbel from Passage Travel from Switzerland.
Guided Round Trip to the North East of Namibia – 10 days – “Caprivi” individually and slightly cheaper designed July 2022
Hi Albert,
Thank you Thank you Thank you!
My memory card is overflowing and I can’t wait to be back. Your patience has been tried, I know, but the results are beautiful. Thank you for the intense observations and extra information.
I will follow your recommendation to choose the “better” lodges next time, I didn’t realise that there are so many other tourists 🙂
Thank you for finding the banded owl and the early visit of the cheetahs in Etosha Park…. I live on the memories.
keep it rolling, Norbert S.
Self-drive tour to the main sights of Namibia – 17 days – “Key points Namibia” individually and high quality designed October 2021
Dear Leaflove Team, Albert,
The trip was a complete success for us, even though we learned on the way that we would do two things differently on a second visit:
– We regretted that we only spent one day each in the wonderful lodges like Wolwedans, Rostock Ritz or Spitzkoppe. Our heads were so full of impressions after each day that we couldn’t really process it. After dinner it was time to go straight to bed – and we have never slept so much on a trip to be fit for new activities each day.
– The two days in Swakopmund were a great time to recover, we could have stayed here longer.
These changes we plan to do on our next trip are not because we found your planning wrong. We wanted to see a lot and you made it possible for us to do so. And 17 days are not long enough for Namibia … The first part of the tour was more about landscape, geography and geology (my thing) and the second part was dominated by animal observations (Bärbel’s main interest). Everyone got their money’s worth.
Etosha and Okonjima were more relaxed because we were in one place for longer and the distances weren’t as large. In Etosha N.P. we made the mistake of biting off too much than we could chew, we didn’t know any better. We visited almost all the waterholes on our way through the park (grrrrrr) and were usually there at the wrong time. Afterwards we learned to pick out only 3,4 or 5 waterholes and to go to them again and again. The tours with the guide from Mushara made everything right again.
Okonjima was the crowning glory. Great ambience, very good service and with Gabriel a top guide with whom we made four trips. In general, several circumstances played into our cards that made our trip such an experience: 1. your professional planning according to our wishes.
2. the fact that tourism had only just started again. All the lodges were almost empty or sparsely frequented and, with one exception, we always had the guides to ourselves. In general, the guides were the biggest plus for us. We could ask them questions and they answered everything patiently. I think they were also happy to share their knowledge and showed us what they were capable of. Great cinema. With Gabriel it was almost a bit private at the end and we talked about things he probably doesn’t normally talk about.
Bärbel was a super driver and drove the entire 2600 km alone. Wasn’t always easy driving through the desert with two oncoming cars per day, the great heat and tiring landscape …
Our highlights were:
1st Wolwedans with our own house and Jakes as a perfect guide including the visit to Stephan’s academy. Very impressive
2. Sossuvlei at sunrise
3. the desert tour in Swakopmund with Chantalle – simply sensational woman!
4. Spitzkoppe Lodge with the best sundowner
5. night at the waterhole in Etosha
6. a lioness hunting prey
7. an elephant in 5 metres in front of us on, where we didn’t know whether it would knock over our car or not …
8. the safaris with Gabriel in Okonjima.
I hope you can do something with my information and if you have any questions, please let me know. I end my letter and the year 2021 with all good wishes for the year 2022. Above all, stay healthy and things will pick up again. I am sure of it and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Bärbel and I are keeping our fingers crossed for you – and we will hear from each other again.
Best regards Sigi
Self-drive Bird Photography Tour: In the game-rich Etosha & Caprivi October / November 2021
Dear Albert,
You have put together another wonderful trip for us! A successful mixture of familiar and new, of relaxing and adventurous-exciting moments. Our expectations were exceeded again, this time we had plenty of animal sightings at the waterholes, more than 40 lions should suffice as a hint. And we were able to get hold of 14 new bird species, how right you were (“You always see something”).
The FJ Cruiser was the ideal vehicle for us, thank you very much!
The logistics worked perfectly, except for – once again! – the journey to the airport by Deutsche Bahn.
With kind regards Michael

Self-drive tour: In the game-rich Etosha & Caprivi September 2021
Dear Albert,
The 3-week trip focused on wildlife viewing, biodiversity and photography and took us from the Central Highlands through the entire Etosha National Park and then through the entire Caprivi Strip with stops at the Okavango, Kwando and Chobe Rivers. Our high expectations were fully met and in some cases even exceeded. We saw and experienced so much that I cannot list any details here. The organisation was perfect, all (sometimes complicated) procedures worked 100%, it doesn’t get any better than that. The accommodations were all excellent and as requested, all with experience value, especially the game drives by car or boat (special praise for Peter Visagie). All guides were competent and eager. Our car, a Toyota Fortuner, was just right for our requirements, only the sat nav led us into a dead end twice.
Five out of five stars for the whole trip. Dear Albert, thank you for everything and we hope for another opportunity to visit your great country.
Many greetings from Christel and Burkhard, Andrea and Frank.
Self-drive Round Trip – “Key Points Namibia” in May 2021
Dear Albert,
after a smooth return on Friday, a busy Saturday in the garden – the grass was half a metre high – , now we have to catch up on the trip and sort out the more than 700 pictures. That will take a few more days, but the weather is unpredictable, so we will likely have enough time at our desk.
First a note about the return flight. We were very relaxed about the whole thing, but then we got a bit nervous when we were asked at the airport whether we had checked in electronically. Yet it wasn’t there at the check-in, but it had to be filled out before boarding. At some point we had the paper in our hands, which was designed by a seemingly illiterate person, and filled it out. All the hustle and bustle was in vain, because it was handed out on the plane shortly before landing. It said that you would be asked for it at passport control when entering the country, and if not, to send it to a specific address. So it happened to be that nobody wanted to see this paper and we sent it from home to add to the bureaucratic chaos. By the way, that’s how it was with almost all the Germans we met at the airport. Maybe a little hint to your guests would be useful, that if you couldn’t re-register electronically, you would get the appropriate form on the plane and you shouldn’t let yourself be driven crazy by some jerks at the airport.
Then a supplement to the Lodge Rostock Ritz. We’ve mentioned the fact that we were not so happy there, but this needs further explanation. The night before, we stayed at the luxury hostel Little Kulala, which is probably one of the best there is. However, there was a problem with some food that kept us (and the Klein family sitting at the table with us) busy all night, namely in the toilet. The management was horrified, all levers were pulled to see what it could have been and everyone was terribly sorry. In short, we were not well the next day either. And in this state, of course, we could not enjoy the beautiful location of the lodge, the game drive or the meal on the lovely terrace. Instead, we went to bed at eight. The people took great care of us and I think we would have enjoyed the lodge very much if we had been in good health. My wife’s comment: she found the rooms too dark, too small and the bathroom/toilet, which was only separated by a curtain, not particularly inviting. We are no tent nomads 😉
So, and now we come to a lot of positive things.
We had a great start to this trip: The Pick-up at the airport with a sim card for my mobile phone (!), breakfast together at the vineyard, short city tour for orientation, handover of the car – from the first moment we felt like we were visiting a friend. Everything was perfectly prepared, the maps and other material, the sat nav pre-programmed, who would have expected that. So our “adventure” started quite relaxed and this feeling accompanied us during the whole time. Kalahari Clayhouse Lodge was perfect for the first night under a magnificent starry sky and Bettina a very gracious hostess. At Zebra Lodge we were joined by animals at the waterhole and on the game drive, we also had many interesting conversations with the helpful staff or local guests. The few guests in Kulala gave us a phenomenal upgrade and we really can’t think of anything better than Little Kulala. Not only were the location, accommodation, food, drink and trips at their best, it was above all the attentiveness and warmth of the staff under Selma’s management that made this a once in a lifetime stay. We came as guests and left as friends. Grandiose landscapes on the way to Swakopmund, a very friendly welcome at Hotel Rapmund, large rooms, plenty of space, great location, always recommendable. We enjoyed our three nights in the German town by the sea. Then back on pad to Twyfelfontein, incredible landscapes, lonely drives on sand and gravel roads. We thought of your hint that we would definitely have a tyre change, we were spared. Nevertheless, we experienced the extraordinary helpfulness of the Namibians, who stopped and asked if we needed help as soon as we pulled over to take a photo. We then did the same for other drivers, of course. Twyfelfontein Lodge was an architectural gem in the middle of the rock, the cottages overlooking the desert and the waterhole. And just in time for our arrival, the famous desert elephants also came to the water and gave us incredible photos. The petroglyphs are not a World Heritage Site for nothing, they alone are worth a trip to Twyfelfontein. Two great days at the lodge and again the observation how friendly and open the people there were, especially the staff, but also local or South African guests. Interesting observation: the few Europeans were rather closed, with the exception of the Stauss family. Maybe we should move to Namibia after all. The large Etosha Safari Lodge was as good as empty, which of course made it even more charming, but its location is ideal for the park visit the next morning. Interrupted by a night at Halali (no further comment on that), we spent two days of incredible game viewing. It was like being in a movie! A highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the night at Mushara Bushcamp with Nakale and his team. Extremely friendly and helpful, they made our stay one of our best experiences and their and our inquisitiveness ensured a long evening at the braai despite the cold. Now everyone there knows about the Southern Cross and the Capetown Coal Sack. Sadly, we had to move on the next day. Over the Waterberg with its incredible landscape we went to the Erindi Old Traders Lodge, pure luxury. Once again the wildlife gave its all, at the waterhole and on the game drive. Lions, wild dogs and leopards crossed our path, Steven, our guide, gave everything, only the cheetahs had other plans. But we had a last gin and tonic as a sundowner in the endless steppe. With heavy hearts, we started our return journey to Windhoek the next day. Thanks to the navigation system, we quickly found Casa Piccolo, a very pleasant place to stay. We spent the evening with Willy Klein in Leo’s Garden, where we listened to exciting Southwestern stories over German food. It was interesting for us to experience that German culture is still alive in Namibia. The test the next day, short city tour, return the car, enjoy the sun in the hotel. Dinner at Utopia opposite, was very tasty and uncomplicated. The last time Oryx for some time, hopefully not forever. So, dear Albert, those were our experiences and impressions. All in all, an unforgettable and super relaxed holiday, which we owe in large part to your good planning and preparation. Nothing could have been better, we felt in the best hands at all times. Thank you very much for that! And we hope that many of our friends will follow our example and discover this beautiful and friendly country with you. We will do our part.
I think we will stay in touch via your blog or otherwise, hopefully see you again at CMT 2022 (we only live about 30 minutes from the fair) and wish you and your family all the best until then.
Best regards Gerhard & Ute
Guided Individual Trip – “Ornithology & Nature Photography” in March / April 2021
Dear Albert,
Thank you very much for this wonderful journey through this highly interesting country of unimaginable contrasts! We were able to see and photograph not only the “Big Five”, the “Little 5” of the desert, but also the only endemic bird species and 10 of 14 “near-endemics” as well as hundreds of other bird species, many mammals, some reptiles and insects. Your guide and driver Hartmut Kolb was our admirable eye, ear, competent explainer of the dune life, the geological phenomena and the overwhelming starry sky. In these extraordinary times you were able to reconcile our wishes with the almost daily changing necessities of the pandemic restrictions flexibly and (for us) without difficulty. It was a miracle to be able to make such an impressive journey at all. We will live off the impressions for a long time, even when the flood of pictures has been sorted and processed. We would love to come again!
Michael
Selbstfahrertour – individuell angepasst – „Beginner’s Traum” Oktober 2020
Dear Albert,
Thank you once again for your great organisation. Without you, our Namibia trip would not have gone so smoothly. When you come to Germany, you are very welcome in Markt Berolzheim. Flight and entry were without any problems, even though the corona numbers in our district were high. Best regards also to Lisa,
Ingrid
Orni- Big Five / Sept.Oct. 2019
Dear Albert,
It has been more than a week since we left your beloved Namibia and returned to cooler Switzerland. We would like to thank you again very, very much for the great trip. It will remain unforgotten! Besides the Big 5, crocodiles and many other mammals, we experienced Namibia’s pure nature with you and also got to know, observe and distinguish many birds. We now know what a swallow-tailed spint or a pronghorn racke looks like and in future we will look at the different “flying objects” in this country a little more closely. In a lively way you also shared with us your great knowledge and personal attitude about the people, the life, the problems and difficulties in Namibia. Aspects that help us to get closer to Africa and to understand it. Albert, we really appreciated your bubbly, open and direct communication and the 3 weeks with you were great and fun. You will remain unforgotten! Above all, we wish you good health!!!, much joy with your family and success and satisfaction in all your activities. Long live Leaflove!
Sincere greetings from Marianne and Moritz Studer
Galton’s Plan, 4-18.9.2019
Dear Albert,
A wonderful trip is now in the past. Your absolutely perfect, highly knowledgeable and sophisticated organisation of our trip has resulted in a very relaxed and enjoyable journey. I can highly recommend LEAFLOVESAFARI to everyone. Peter, who accompanied us, will have told you about the lodges and the bush camp. All of them are tiptop clean, Sesfontein is clearly in need of renovation, but every single accommodation is special and beautiful. The overnight stay on the Grootberg, virtually on the precipice and with a sensational view, was a highlight. We got on very well with Peter. He brought us closer to Namibia’s north in all its many facets in a knowledgeable and sensitive way. His empathy and love for Namibia, flora, fauna and habitat is contagious and comprehensible to us all along the line. He showed us several insights and “corners” that we definitely would not have found and/or seen without his guidance. The Landcruiser provided excellent service – the ideal and reliable vehicle for this country and such trips. Many thanks for that too! For me, the geology and the people were particularly exciting. The drought, the thousands of kilometres of fences, the overgrazing and associated erosion were frightening and raise questions about the future. We are determined that this was not our last trip to Africa together – after all, the south of Namibia still wants to be “discovered” by us! Thank you very much for this unforgettably beautiful trip.
Your JL
Warm greetings from Germany Albert,
We have arrived home safely and are full of impressions from our first trip to Africa in Namibia. It was a great holiday and we thank you for that, because you organised and prepared everything efficiently. Our tour guide Hartmut was simply amazing and gave us an unforgettable impression of the country, the people and the flora and fauna. He has certainly already reported on the tour from his point of view. Our constructive suggestion for improvement is to show the different options (if there are any) in future travel plans, so that you can decide more consciously which category you want to book. Now we have to arrive back in Germany and process our experiences and think about how we can help Namibia from our Lions Club Mosbach in the future. The discussions in Ombili and with the Lions Club in Tsumeb have given us important impulses. Thank you again for your organisation. If you are ever in Germany again, please contact us. We would be happy to meet each other in person. And of course, if we plan to go on holiday in Namibia again, we will be happy to get in touch with you.
LG Manfred
Dear Albert,
We have returned home safe and sound with many wonderful impressions and far too many photos. Somehow we are slowly returning to everyday life. The trip was simply too beautiful and we are very satisfied. Everything went very well with both guides. They represented you in a worthy manner.
But we would also like to thank you especially for the great planning. Every evening we thought that after everything we had seen and experienced during the day, the next day would not be able to top it – this was not the case. Every day brought new highlights, the route and the stays were so optimal. With our preference for barren landscapes and interest in geology, we were already thrilled in the first few days. And then came the animals – more every day, especially elephants. Maybe we were a bit lucky there, it was great in any case. Some of the accommodation was brilliant (Nambwa upgraded us to the Main Lodge) and all of it was good. If you need more detailed information about anything, please let us know. Our impressions are still fresh.
If you are in Europe at some point let us know. Then maybe we can meet, e.g. at a trade fair. If we can afford such a trip again, we will definitely get in touch with you.
We wish you all the best and above all that the treatment is successful and that you get well soon.
Best wishes and thank you for everything
Claudia + Piotr
Dear Albert,
Now we are back in wet and dark Germany. I have resolved to study and get to know my surroundings better in the future. You have inspired me with your curiosity and knowledge! All the best and see you soon for sure,
Waldemar R.
Grüezi Mr Voigts
We are back in Switzerland and I would like to thank you very much. Our trip to Namibia cannot be topped. The lodges were all top class and we experienced all the animals up close right before our eyes, except for the leopard. The service was excellent. We never had to wait for anything or anyone. Just excellent.
Two comments, which are negligible: it would have been more pleasant to have the last overnight stay in the Victoria Falls region.
FYI, the last visa is $50 today instead of $30.
I can recommend this trip to everyone (Big Five).
Thanks again and I wish you a good season.
Kind regards
Werner R.
Hello and a very good day to you Albert Voigts v.S.
Yes, we have been for two weeks right about now and the wonderful experiences in Namibia are always immediately recallable ! It was a wonderful tour and our time was over much too fast ! We noticed immediately that you had chosen the most beautiful and comfortable lodges for us. Everything was just right: the very reliable Toyota, all the activities and the feel-good accommodation, the delicious meals and, despite the many magical travel adventures, it was not at all exhausting and we came back refreshed. Sometimes we asked ourselves which was the most beautiful accommodation. We can’t say, because everything was excellent in its own way and there is no “outlier” to the bottom ! Helene from Mahango Safari Lodge sends her best regards and told us about a visit to her family. We felt at home everywhere ! So thank you again for your efforts, everything was excellent !!!! Warm autumnal and sunny greetings from Stadthagen
From Regina and Charly B.
Hello Mr Voigts from Schütz,
We arrived home safely on Friday in frosty temperatures (what a contrast to the temperatures during the trip!). On behalf of all the participants in our small group, I would like to thank you very much for the round trip you organised with its many scenic and “animal” sights. Other highlights for us were the lodges you selected, which made the overnight stays a very special “experience” in their own right. Just a few examples are the Bagatelle Kalahari Game Ranch, Eagle’s Nest Chalets in Klein-Aus Vista or the Mushara Bush Camp. We would have liked to stay longer at such places. But it was our guide Richard who really brought this trip to life. He always chauffeured and accompanied us very carefully, told us a lot about the country and its people, took us to wonderful places and excellent restaurants. With Richard, you have a staff member who contributed decisively to the success of the trip. Thank you very much for this as well. We will gladly recommend Leaflove Safari to others.
Many greetings from autumnal Bavaria,
Hubert W.
Dear Mr Voigts,
We’ve been back home since yesterday, and before the daily grind takes us back, here’s a brief feedback on our trip: Everything worked out great. The trip was perfectly organised and perfectly executed. Rolf brought us very close to Namibia, he knows the answer to every question and much more. He looked after us very well and tirelessly showed us everything or accompanied us. In summary: We had a wonderful time in Namibia and would like to thank you for putting our trip together, choosing the accommodation etc. We will gladly recommend Nomtsas to others. If you have prospective clients from the German-speaking area, please feel free to pass on our telephone number or email address, we think it is very useful (for you and for prospective clients) when “old clients” give recommendations. We would be happy to do so. With best regards from the cold of Germany
Margot and Hans H.
Hello Mr Voigts from Schütz,
After our return we would like to get in touch again to tell you about our adventure. The overall concept of the safari, the chosen accommodation (with one exception) and the rental vehicle met our expectations and enabled us to have an unforgettably beautiful holiday. We were also pleased that we got to know each other personally. We tested the SAT-telephone as discussed and were still able to make phone calls at the southernmost point of our trip, at the red Aloe garipensis at Fishriver Canyon.
We had the best experience with the Tokkie Trek map, see: http://www.namibiana.de/de/namibia-2010-digitale-strassenkarte-fur-garmin-gps-gerate-mit-kartendarstellung.html, for travel logging and navigation and can recommend it without reservation. The only downer for us was the accommodation in the Okapuka Ranch.
All in all, we got to know Namibia from many different sides and as different as the nature and accommodation were, each station of the trip had its own special charm.
Thank you and greetings from the Upper Moselle,
Frank & Claudine
Hello, dear Albert,
Although the Berlin rush has us in its grip again, our minds are still in Africa. There is a reason for that, because you have put together another wonderful trip for us. Everything worked out fine, the lodges were in fantastic locations, we got to know Namibia in its unbelievably wonderful variety of animals, yes, and Klaus was such a pleasant, clever companion who took excellent care of us at every possible moment and drove superbly.
Many thanks for everything.
And all the best to you and your family
Kalli and Silvi
Hello Mr Voigts,
We have been back from Namibia for a week now, yet we still have the dreamlike trip on our minds. We really enjoyed the private safari with Richard. We have been on many great trips, but this was a very special one. Just thinking back to the amazing scenery, the many wildlife sightings, the spectacular photo stops, the great accommodation and the super tour guide by Richard, we could go again immediately. Due to the necessary rebookings (Hobatere burnt down, Grootberg overbooked) we drove around a bit in Damaraland, but were able to see desert elephants twice and had the opportunity to stay at the sensational Vingerklip Lodge and dine at Eagles Nest in the evening. It was great that Grootberg worked out for at least one more night. The approach and view are truly spectacular. The overnight stays in Etosha National Park at Okaukuejo Camp were also sensational just because of the waterhole with animals coming and going. Maybe you should rather choose another accommodation for future bookings at the Waterberg. Currently, the pool was not intact, the hiking trails overgrown and the footbridges fragile, and the fly screen in our room could not be pushed open. On the other hand, the food was great.
Here’s a tip for the packing list: We missed a nasal spray to moisturise our noses due to the dry air!
Thank you very much for this great trip. Maybe we will meet in person at one of the travel fairs next year.
Many greetings from Germany, which has become cold in the meantime.
Anja and Bernd
Dear Mr Voigts von Schütz, you did not promise us too much: our trip through Namibia was a great experience. The route and timing were cleverly planned and you chose fantastic lodges. Each one was different in its kind, but we felt comfortable in all of them. An important contribution to the success of the trip was made by our companion and guide Hartmut Kolb. He not only has a comprehensive knowledge of the country and its people, but he was also able to satisfy my wife’s great thirst for knowledge about animals and plants. He looked after us prudently and he arranged several excursions for us on the side.We owe him many special impressions and many an exciting experience.
We thank you for the good preparation and execution of the trip, it will remain in our good memories. We will gladly recommend you to others
Best regards, Ingrid and Heiner G.
BIRDS – Readers’ Trip 2009
I have been back from the pilot trip to Namibia since Tuesday afternoon.
Since I had to get back into the frying pan immediately due to my full-time job, I can only briefly report now. The trip was wonderful! In Namibia it was raining from November to February like never before in living memory. So we drove and hiked through a blossoming, green paradise. Waving seas of grass stretching to the horizon with masses of wildlife.
Bird-wise, the trip was very fruitful, we saw more than 280 species of birds, including quite a few of the near and true endemics. I will certainly not be able to recognise every lark, but will certainly remember every eagle observation. Short list: Rock (Kaffir), Scream, Savannah, Lesser, African Hawk, Silver, Martial Eagle, as well as African Fish Eagle, Black-breasted and One-coloured Snake Eagle, Eared and White-backed Vulture, Bateleur, Amur, Red-footed, Afr. Turm, Dwarf, Red-necked, Pallid, Reddish, Peregrine, Lanner Falcon, Shikra, Song Goshawk, Gabar Goshawk, Parasitic Kite, Barred Hawk, many Steppe Buzzards (B.b. vulpinus) … Exciting for me a Honey Buzzard (Immat.) circling over Windhuek’s sewage treatment plant.
We saw all the tokos to be expected, lots of “lbj”, beautiful weavers, breeding herons, tens of thousands (!!!) of Cape Cormorants and all the other shags, fur seals to touch, lots of limousines, including golden snipe (!), Odin’s grouse and redshank, all the gulls and terns to be expected. A Saddle-billed Stork in Etosha was remarkable, four species of owls too. Incredible the probably more than a thousand Black-fronted Shrikes we could see, or the singing Yellow Warbler at the Waterberg.
And there was also (selection): Lion, bat-eared fox, white rhino, elephant, oryx, hartebeest, eland, kudu, both wildebeest, thousands of springbok and zebra and especially impressive the Hartmann’s mountain zebra. We often had the feeling of being in paradise, the variety of landscapes is hard to believe, the lodges were first class, the food excellent, the tour guide Albert Voigts competent, entertaining, committed.
Almost everyone in the group wants to go again. To the Caprivi. 2011 – With birdingtours –

VÖGEL – The Birdwatching Magazine
Dear Albert, an AMAZING trip, we are totally thrilled.
The composition of the trip and the selection of the lodges were really well done. Every day contained a highlight, whether it was game viewing or magnificent landscapes. The bird and plant life was not neglected either. Klaus, with his knowledge of the country and its people, was a real stroke of luck for us. Nothing escaped his peering eyes, he drew our attention to many things we would certainly not have seen otherwise. Klaus was also sovereign behind the wheel. Neuras is very interesting but at the end we would have preferred to spend 2 nights in Rostock Ritz. Okonjima is highly recommendable from our point of view. Have you ever thought about a guest picture gallery? Thanks again and all the best to you and Leaflove Safari.
Kind regards Dagmar + Walter
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time on safari with Albert in Namibia several years ago. The hospitality & friendliness shown to us was very special. We still talk about the impromptu BBQ at Namuntomi (not sure of spelling Albert!) along with our four legged visitors!! We look forward to the time when family commitments allow us to go again!!!
