  • Upon arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport, you will be welcomed by your private driver and transferred directly to the rental vehicle depot.
  • During the vehicle handover, you will receive a comprehensive briefing covering the vehicle, its features, and all relevant insurance information.
  • Afterwards, we will personally hand over your complete travel package, including your vouchers, maps, detailed route notes, and a small welcome pack.

Your journey begins at a charming lodge, nestled in the Acacia savanna of Namibia’s central highlands.

After your arrival, you will collect your rental vehicle at a professional vehicle depot, where you will receive a relaxed and comprehensive handover before having the opportunity to pick up a few last minute supplies in Windhoek. From here, your self drive adventure into Namibia’s vast landscapes begins.

After your long flight, there is no better way to start your journey than by unwinding, enjoying the African sunshine and settling into the peaceful surroundings.

The drive through the Khomas Highlands offers a wonderful first impression of Namibia’s remarkable geological diversity. Towering sandstone formations, rugged basalt ridges and impressive granite outcrops create a landscape unlike anywhere else.

Enjoy a leisurely walk, relax by the pool or join an optional afternoon game drive. It is the perfect opportunity for your first encounters with Africa’s remarkable wildlife and colourful birdlife.

Day 2

Linear Dunes of the Kalahari

Endless red dunes, ancient Camel Thorn trees and enormous Sociable Weaver nests define the unique landscapes of the Kalahari. Contrary to popular belief, this is not a true desert, but a remarkably diverse savanna.

Explore the region at your own pace. Whether you choose an early morning nature walk with the lodge, a game drive or simply relax while overlooking the rolling dunes, the Kalahari rewards visitors with its tranquillity and fascinating wildlife. Tracks in the soft sand reveal the hidden lives of many animals, while Ground Squirrels and Meerkats busily forage nearby. Bird enthusiasts may spot the tiny Pygmy Falcon and, with a little luck, even a Cape Cobra.

Game drives through the gentle dune valleys regularly reveal Gemsbok, Springbok, Greater Kudu and Giraffe. With a little good fortune, you may also encounter Bat Eared Foxes or other species specially adapted to this beautiful semi desert environment.

Day 3

Hiking the Naukluft

The Naukluft is one of Namibia’s most fascinating geological landscapes. Towering dolomite cliffs, impressive tuff formations and ancient granite foundations reveal an extraordinary geological history spanning hundreds of millions of years.

The Naukluft remains one of Namibia’s most beautiful and least visited natural treasures. Explore the narrow gorges and crystal clear springs on one of the walking trails, or simply enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery at your own pace. Quiver Trees, Elephant’s Foot, Wonderbush and Bushman’s Candles thrive among the rocky slopes, while Klipspringers, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras and Greater Kudus roam the rugged terrain. Keep an eye out for Rosy Faced Lovebirds, colourful waxbills and many other bird species. The cool spring water and remarkable tranquillity make this an unforgettable place to pause and appreciate Namibia’s wild beauty.

Days 4 & 5

  • 1 night at a lodge inside the Namib Naukluft National Park. Thanks to its unique location, you can reach the dunes before sunrise and experience Sossusvlei in the magical early morning light.

The magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei are among Namibia’s most iconic landscapes. In the soft morning light, the towering red sand dunes glow with remarkable colours, creating one of the country’s most unforgettable natural spectacles.

Set off early to experience the dunes at their very best. Climbing one of these towering sand giants is a rewarding challenge, offering breathtaking views across the endless sea of red dunes. Afterwards, explore the famous Sossusvlei and nearby Deadvlei with its centuries old Camel Thorn trees, before continuing your discovery of this extraordinary desert landscape at your own pace.

Just a short drive away lies Sesriem Canyon, where the Tsauchab River has carved a deep gorge into the rock over millions of years. A leisurely walk through the canyon provides a fascinating contrast to the vast open dunes and is the perfect way to round off the day.

  • Some experiences are simply a must! In the face of the region’s unpredictable weather, Namib Sky’s hot air balloons gracefully ascend amid the dunes and Huns mountains, gracing the gravel flats of the Tsauchab. This journey offers a breathtaking perspective of the dunes, mountains, and the enchanting tapestry of vibrant landscapes as they come alive in the morning light
    If you would like a balloon ride, it would make sense to extend the trip here by one day!

About 30 km south lies Walvis Bay, home to an 11,000-hectare lagoon and an important wetland. During the cruise, you’ll encounter flamingos, pelicans, seals, dolphins, and, with luck, whales or sunfish – topped off with fresh oysters and a glass of sparkling wine.

For a more immersive nature experience: paddle the lagoon and get within a few meters of curious seals, enjoying the tranquility of this unique coastal landscape from a whole new perspective.

The road to Swakopmund…oldest desert to the majestic Atlantic Ocean…

The seemingly endless gravel plains of the Namib stretch towards the horizon, creating one of Namibia’s most remarkable landscapes. The journey to Swakopmund is filled with fascinating geological and botanical highlights.

Allow yourself time for a few worthwhile detours. Granite mountains, ancient erosion valleys and dry riverbeds make this one of Namibia’s most scenic drives. Despite the arid surroundings, Giraffes, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebras and several antelope species are regularly encountered, while lucky travellers may even spot a Cheetah. A rewarding stop is the cave where geologists Henno Martin and Hermann Korn took refuge during the Second World War, immortalised in the classic book The Sheltering Desert. Sturdy walking shoes are recommended for the short hike.

Further along the route you will discover the remarkable Welwitschia mirabilis, extensive lichen fields and the dramatic Moon Landscape carved by the Swakop River. Once in Swakopmund, enjoy the town’s unique blend of German colonial architecture and modern Namibia. Charming cafés, artisan coffee roasters, an excellent gin distillery, local art galleries, the Mole promenade, the privately run museum and the fascinating Crystal Gallery all invite you to explore at your own pace.

Days 8 & 9

Spitzkoppe & the mighty Erongo

Rising dramatically from the endless gravel plains of the Namib, Spitzkoppe is Namibia’s most iconic granite mountain. Together with the magnificent Erongo Mountains, it forms one of southern Africa’s most spectacular landscapes and a paradise for hikers, photographers and nature lovers.

Take your time to explore Spitzkoppe’s remarkable granite formations along easy walking trails, discovering impressive rock arches, outstanding photographic opportunities and ancient San rock paintings that provide a fascinating glimpse into Namibia’s early history. Continue into the dramatic Erongo Mountains, where towering boulders, deep valleys and a unique semi desert flora create an unforgettable setting. Scenic walks offer excellent opportunities to observe endemic bird species, Klipspringers and many fascinating plant species.

For those interested in Namibia’s cultural heritage, an optional guided walk with members of the San community provides valuable insights into their traditional way of life. Twyfelfontein

Damaraland is one of Namibia’s most fascinating regions, where ancient rock formations, petrified forests and remarkable archaeological sites reveal millions of years of natural history.

Explore the 4,000 to 6,000 year old rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, the striking Burnt Mountain and the impressive basalt columns known as the Organ Pipes. Another highlight is the Petrified Forest, where enormous tree trunks, washed here around 200 million years ago, have turned to stone over the ages. Together, these sites rank among Namibia’s most extraordinary geological attractions.

As you continue your journey, the route follows the dry Huab River through a spectacular desert landscape. Towering Ana Trees, also known as Winter Thorn Acacias, line parts of the riverbed and provide an important food source for the region’s famous desert adapted elephants. With a little luck, you may encounter these remarkable animals roaming freely through this unique wilderness.

Etosha National Park – Central

Etosha National Park, meaning “Great White Place”, covers almost 22,000 km² and ranks among Africa’s finest wildlife reserves. Few places offer such rewarding opportunities to observe large mammals in their natural habitat.

Explore the park at your own pace and enjoy the freedom to stop at waterholes and viewpoints whenever wildlife captures your attention. Lions, Elephants, Giraffes, Rhinos and numerous antelope species are regularly encountered, while fortunate visitors may also spot Cheetahs, Leopards or the elusive Black Rhinoceros.

At the heart of the park lies the immense Etosha Pan, covering more than 4,000 km². During the dry season, the artesian waterholes along its edge attract remarkable concentrations of wildlife, creating exceptional opportunities for game viewing and photography. Etosha National Park – East

The eastern section of Etosha National Park is characterised by diverse vegetation, distinctive Makalani Palms and an exceptional variety of wildlife. It is one of Namibia’s finest regions for game viewing and nature photography.

Explore the network of roads and waterholes at your own pace, stopping whenever wildlife captures your attention. Springbok, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Damara Dik Dik, Black Faced Impala and Gemsbok are regularly encountered, together with Lions, large herds of Elephants and both Black and White Rhinoceroses. With a little luck, you may also spot Leopard or Cheetah. Bird enthusiasts can look out for specialities such as the Blue Crane, while the colourful Etosha Agama is often seen basking on sunlit rocks. Okonjati – Home of Mount Etjo

Your journey continues to the striking red rock formations of Mount Etjo, surrounded by the dense Acacia savanna of the Okonjati Game Reserve. Covering around 36,000 hectares, the reserve provides a protected habitat for approximately 10,000 animals and more than 600 bird species.

After arriving at the lodge, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings or join a guided game drive in an open safari vehicle. Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will explore the diverse landscapes of the reserve, where Elephants, Rhinos, Giraffes, Lions, Greater Kudus, Warthogs and many other species are regularly encountered. Birdwatchers will also appreciate the remarkable diversity of birdlife. Another distinctive feature of the area is the impressive termite mounds, some reaching up to five metres in height, which form a striking part of the landscape.

With a little luck and by prior arrangement, you may even have the chance to join a dedicated search for the elusive Pangolin, one of Africa’s rarest mammals. Depending on your onward travel plans, today either marks the end of your self drive adventure through Namibia or the beginning of your next journey.

Many international flights depart during the afternoon or evening, making it easy to combine the return of your rental vehicle with a comfortable airport transfer. If you prefer a more relaxed final day or would like to spend additional time exploring Windhoek, we are happy to arrange an extra night either in the city or at an elegant lodge close to the airport.

Alternatively, why not extend your African adventure? Popular options include a fly in safari to the Caprivi, the Okavango Delta or a few memorable days in Cape Town. We would be delighted to help you tailor the perfect extension to your journey.

Your final journey takes you back to Namibia’s capital, offering one last opportunity to enjoy the country’s magnificent landscapes before your adventure comes to an end.

Depending on your flight schedule, there may still be time to browse for locally crafted souvenirs, explore a few of Windhoek’s artisan shops or enjoy one final Namibian game steak with a refreshing local „Rockshandy“. Afterwards, simply return your rental vehicle at the vehicle depot, where a pre arranged transfer will take you comfortably to the airport or to your selected accommodation.

Damaraland & Etendeka

Nestled within the strikingly dark red basaltic Etendeka Formation of Damaraland, one discovers the serene oasis of Palmwag Spring amidst lush reeds and majestic Makalani palms. This water source serves as a magnet for a remarkable array of desert-dwelling wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and various antelope species such as springbok and oryx. Amidst a backdrop of thousands of olive-green Euphorbias, keen observers may be fortunate enough to encounter the endemic Hartmann’s mountain zebra.
Embarking on an exploratory journey through the Palmwag concession, we embark on a quest to the diverse avian life, including the elusive Benguela Long-billed Lark and the regal Rüppell’s Korhaan.

For an immersive experience, consider joining a locally guided day tour to the critically endangered black rhinoceros, commonly known as the hook-lipped rhino. Along this journey, nature enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to encounter other splendid game species such as giraffes and the majestic Greater Kudu. Occasionally, the road may even reveal the elusive presence of desert elephants and, on rare occasions, the elusive desert lions.

Hobatere Nature Reserve in Damaraland

A truly “untouched” nature, where wildlife can still follow the daily rhythm of Africa. Expect encounters with endemic Hartmann’s mountain zebra, numerous antelope and giraffe. Lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephants like to roam this area, being able to observe them is always a matter of luck (and a little experience).
We also like to use this area due to its prolific birdlife, as Bare-cheeked Babbler, Little Sparrowhawk and Scops Owl can already be found in the garden here.
Guided Night drives, with lesser nocturnal species being the centre of attention, deliver much unexpected sightings; Springhare, Genets, Nightjars, Cape and Bat eared Foxes and even the elusive Aardvark are frequently seen here.

You will drive through the Westpark on your day of departure, an absolute highlight which is only possible for a few tourists. Take packed lunches with you and take your time at the waterholes to observe the wildlife, often as the only one(s)

This trip is designed for a wide range of interest and you will have the correct weather for your observations in different places at different times of the year. If you are particularly interested in a lot of wildlife viewing, this trip would be ideal from May to November.

This is an all-rounder tour where you will experience new impressions and almost all the main sights of Namibia every day. All routes are easy to navigate and safe to drive.

You need to add at least 4 days for an extended route to the canyon if you want to experience this safely and stress-free. Gladly also 6 days for an extended southern loop including Lüderitz Bay.

In a time when flight bookings are just a few clicks away, it may seem old-fashioned to involve a travel agent.
